Type the script you wish you had. We find the words.

Most of the work in interview-driven editing isn’t the cuts. It’s the listening. Watching the same hour of footage three times because you remember someone said the perfect line, but you can’t remember which clip. ReelChest does that listening once, on your Mac. Then you find what you need by searching for it.

Library Search

Find any line of dialogue across your whole library.

I know I said it on day three of the shoot. I just can’t find which clip. ReelChest transcribes every clip in your library, right on your Mac. Type the phrase you remember. Every match shows up. Click one to play the exact second. Interviews, vlogs, podcasts, multi-cam talking heads: you stop re-watching, you start finding.

Subtitle Editor

Captions that ride with your edit.

Eight animation presets, from Hard Cut to Word Reveal. Style any caption, down to a single word, with its own font, color, weight, and a nine-zone position. Frame-accurate timing on every word, pinned to 150ms so short words like “Hey” or “No” don’t get clipped. Build a paper edit and the captions follow with your styling intact. Assemble a mosaic and captions are transcribed fresh from the new cut, timed to the words. Export as a Final Cut Pro captioned timeline, alpha MOV for finishing, or universal .srt, .vtt, .txt, or .json.

Paper Edit

Build a rough cut from a script of your interviews.

Open every clip’s transcript as one continuous script. Highlight the lines that matter. Stack them in the order you want. Send the result to Final Cut Pro as a sequence with the cuts already made. Premiere and Resolve XML available too. The slog of cutting interview footage, mostly handled before you open the timeline.

Mosaic Editor

Type the script you wish you had. We find the words.

Write the line you want, even if nobody said it that way. ReelChest scans every transcript in your library, finds matching words across different clips, and snaps them into a sequence in the order you wrote them. Promo edits, supercuts, music video voice, sizzle reels: built from the words you have, in the cadence you want.

Also included.

Work that doesn’t make the headline, but makes the difference.

  • The transport bar.

One key to scrub, one to nudge a frame. Three loop modes with a tri-state badge so you always know what’s playing.

  • Color labels.

Tag colors derived per-label using Rec. 709 luminance, so foregrounds stay legible against any background. Always derived, never hard-coded.

  • Waveform rendering.

Two-tier peak and RMS, sub-pixel bars, only the visible slice rendered. Scrubs at 120fps even on a long master.

  • Codec transcoding.

DNxHR, MXF P2, MKV, and GoPro flavors converted to ProRes proxies inside the app. Imports cleanly into Final Cut Pro, Premiere, or Resolve.

  • FCPXML that just works.

Sequences land silently in your active library. Clips, edits, and timing intact. No picker dialog, no manual step.

  • Premiere and Resolve.

Final Cut Pro is the deepest integration, but XML export sends your cuts to Premiere and Resolve too. Same paper edits, same mosaic assemblies, just a different finishing app.

What ReelChest isn’t.

  • Not a cloud tool. Every transcript happens on your Mac. Your footage stays on your drives. NDA work, embargoed interviews, unreleased client cuts: nothing leaves the machine.
  • Not an auto-editor. We help you find and assemble the words. The cuts are still yours.
  • Not a kitchen-sink NLE. Built for the prep work, the part before you cut. Hand off to Final Cut Pro, Premiere, or Resolve when you’re ready to finish.
